2004: the resort opens
On June 10, 2004, Fallsview Casino Resort opened to the public in Niagara Falls. It had been built at a cost of $1 billion. Its opening date is the fixed point for the rest of this page. That opening also ended a plan that had shaped another casino in the city.
Casino Niagara opened its doors on December 9, 1996, as the second casino to open in Ontario. It was planned as a temporary facility, meant to run until the Niagara Fallsview casino resort was finished. The temporary part did not last. When Fallsview opened, Casino Niagara stayed open, and both casinos kept running in the same city. Neither one replaced the other.
Who runs Fallsview
In Ontario, OLG conducts and manages all casino gaming, and Fallsview is governed by OLG. Private service providers run casinos day to day under long-term operating agreements. The AGCO regulates and registers those operators. On June 11, 2019, Mohegan took over day-to-day operation of Fallsview and Casino Niagara under a 21-year agreement with OLG.
The two casinos also share a loyalty card. Momentum is Mohegan's rewards program, used at both Fallsview and Casino Niagara. Membership is free for anyone 19 or older with government-issued photo ID. Enrolment happens at Guest Services at either casino. Momentum also matters for parking and the shuttle, covered below.

The gaming floor has over 3,200 slot machines and 110 gaming tables. The property also includes a 372-room hotel. That makes the building a resort in the plain sense: guests can stay the night as well as visit the casino floor.
Two stages handle the entertainment side. The Avalon Theatre has 1,500 seats. The OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino holds 5,000 seats. Concert dates also affect parking rates, as the next section explains.
