The last chapter in this guide's timeline is online, not on Highway 5 or Falls Avenue. Before using a site, it helps to know who runs the market, how to check an operator and how to stop.
The regulated market
Ontario's regulated online gambling market opened on April 4, 2022. iGaming Ontario conducts and manages it. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, known as the AGCO, regulates it. Private operators take part in it alongside the provincial site, OLG.ca.
A private online casino is legal in the province only when two conditions are met. The first is registration with the AGCO. The second is an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. A site that lacks either one is not legal in Ontario.
The legal age for online casino gaming in Ontario is 19. It matches the legal age for casinos in the province. Bets can be placed only while the player is physically in Ontario, so location at the moment of the bet is what counts.
Checking a site
iGaming Ontario publishes the list of regulated sites at igamingontario.ca. That list is the place to check any online casino before using it. A private site missing from it lacks the AGCO registration or the operating agreement that Ontario requires.
OLG.ca stands apart from the private sites. It is the online casino of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, the provincial agency.
Stopping
BetGuard, at betguard.ca, has been run by iGaming Ontario since May 14, 2026. It lets a person exclude themselves from all regulated Ontario online gambling sites, including OLG.ca. Terms are 6 months, 1 year, 5 years or a custom length. BetGuard does not cover land-based casinos.
For the casinos, OLG's My PlayBreak offers self-exclusion for 3 or 6 months or 1 to 5 years. A casino break bars entry to any Ontario casino, and the term cannot be cancelled early. Enrolment goes through the OLG Support Centre at 1-800-387-0098, staff on site or a PlaySmart Centre. ConnexOntario offers free, confidential help 24/7: call 1-866-531-2600, text CONNEX to 247247 or chat at connexontario.ca.
Paid links on this site
Paid links on this site appear only on its home page, each marked Ad. There are three: one in the menu, one in a block just below the first screen and one near the end of the page. All lead to the same online casino partner, and the site earns a commission. That partner can change. The links are for Ontario only, so players must be physically located in Ontario.
This page carries no paid links. Casinos, OLG, the province and help services never pay this site.
